The Onslaught Of Knight
I'm hurtling backwards, the day that was before me is still there, but becoming ever more distant, lived in and abandoned. Its a done deal, we have duelled and parted.
I'm not down about this, I'm pleased with the progression. The colours are grey, muted, bland. Maybe that's just the view from the slits of my tired eyes. Music is nearby, soft and melodic strings. A Classical track is always a nice surprise in a random playlist.
The sound of air whizzes nearby, mechanical clunks and the occasional screech of metal on metal - friction; high pitched and accompanied by a sound of displaced air and the sensation of slowing, a battle being fought in the air. The body eases off the cushioned seat momentarily, then settles back down as we accelerate again.
The work day is done, I'm heading home. There is blood on my blade, but I have no visibile wounds. Another day in battle, more stories to tell. The train - my mechanical horse is taking me back to the princess in the castle...
A *spark* to inspire
Since NaNoWriMo, the writing habit hasn't quite stuck as I had hoped it
would. Initially this concerned me as I want to make it a habitual
process and although I often feel like writing, I've found it
difficult to find the time and often the energy.
I am not alone and this is common! At times, ideas strike me and it is
at these times that I feel most motivated. Excited by an idea and what
could become of it. I am happy to say that these moments are common
and instead of waiting for an opportunity to spend a few hours
writing, I am going to jot them down immediately whilst they are
fresh, inspiring and motivational. After all, a spark doesn't take a long time to happen. In itself, it
is an exciting burst of energy producing light, heat and in bygone
days, awe and wonder and that is my inspiration. When the next spark comes, I intend to capture the moment and let it
be the catalyst to my next great idea and hopefully something bigger.
It might not produce a fire, but without the spark, all would remain
dark.
NaNoWriMo official contestant!
So I've taken the plunge and entered NaNoWriMo (National November Writing Month). I haven't even started it on 1st Nov, so I'm already behind, but quietly confident that I can pull it off. The great thing about NaNoWriMo is that it is all about quantity and banging out a first draft 50,000 novel without editing or caring too much about the quality. My main motivation for doing this is that I have been wanting to write something for a while and think this is the perfect opportunity to just put words down and get it done!
And so it begins
Finally got round to starting my novel today! I had caught an early
train into Glasgow to peruse the 'Stella for gap' collection and was
disappointed as they didn't have any of the things Tamara (my wife)
had shortlisted. However, it wasn't a wasted journey as I grabbed a
coffee and started my novel on the train.
'Write room' for mobile writing. I'm undecided between 'Scrivener',
'Write Room' or 'Ulysses' for my MAC desktop application of choice.
I have contemplated trying to sign up for the NaNoWriNo writing competition
purely for the motivation (50,000 word story to be written entirely in
November). Time to get busy! Till the next *spark*,
C x
